Activity: Japan from Lebanese Eyes Schools Painting Competition - VIII

Organizers:
Painting Competition – Organized by LEBA-JICA and College de la Sagesse St. Elie – Clemenceau - Beirut - Lebanon, in coordination with JICA and the Japanese Embassy in Lebanon.

Introduction:
Schools in Lebanon are exposed mainly to the French and the English cultures as well as their own Arabic culture. These two Anglo-Saxon and Francophone cultures have deeply disseminated their views, ideas, and performances among the students of Lebanon.

As we are friends of Japan, we think that it is time to introduce the Japan civilization to our schools, since the Japanese civilization is one of the oldest and richest in the world in terms of arts, sciences, technology, and culture.

Objectives:
- The students of Lebanon should acknowledge the Japanese vital culture and express their knowledge through paintings.

Targeted Group:
- Students between 6 years and 15 years in the complementary divisions in the schools. They were divided into 4 categories of age. Category 1 age between 6 and 8. Category 2 age between 8 -10, Category 3 age between 11-12, Category 4 age between 13-15.

Output:
- Water and pencil color paintings for the students in order for them to be get exposed and express their vision towards the Japanese culture, and civilization.

Jury Committee:
- Representatives from LEBA-JICA and JICA
- Representatives from the school

Details of the activity:
The activity started in February with the selection of a school, the purchase of painting tools, and the selection of best participants with the help of the art teacher. This was followed by a meeting with the JICA representative for the selection of the best three winners from each of the three categories mentioned above.

This activity was begin with a Japanese welcome by kinder garden students and Japanese dance by students followed by a ceremony at the College de la Sagesse – St. Elie Private School at the general hall with the presence of H.E. Mr. Magoshi Masayuki, Ambassador of Japan, Ms. Zeina Khalaf Helou, JICA office coordinator, LEBA-JICA Board Members and the school staff.
During which winning certificates, painting tools and educational games were delivered to the three winners from each of the four categories by H.E. Mr. Masayuki and LEBA-JICA.

The other finalists received their certificate of participation and educational presents by the art teacher, the school director and LEBA-JICA.

Awards for the winners:
- The Three first winners in the four categories received each 2 certificates (the first one for being finalists, and the second one for winning the competition), in addition to a set of color tubes, a brush, a tablet and educational present.
- All other finalists received a certificate of participation, a set of color tubes, a brush, and educational present.
- All certificates were signed by the former president – Treasurer (Mr. Kamal Mokdad) and the Secretary of LEBA-JICA (Ms. Hanan Abi Ghanem).
